Spreading God’s love, here, there and everywhere.

New Opportunities:

Helping people eat and sleep safely?

Food, Shelter and Clothing

Food Pantry/Utility Assistance:
A dedicated team of Peace UMC members pack donated food to distribute to hungry families Thursday mornings. Learn more here.

Interfaith Community Council (ICC):
ICC is a collaboration of about 25 local faith organizations/churches who voluntarily support programs like Meals on Wheels, School Dressing Days, a Layette Program, Dolphin Program, the Salvation Army’s Community Assessment Program and the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank. Visit InterfaithCommunityCouncil.org.

Each August, School Dressing Days provides school-aged children with a new pair of jeans, new shirt, new socks, new underwear, backpack, school supplies, and toiletries. They can also choose a gently-used coat, jacket, or hoodie and a used pair of shoes. Peace UMC helps by providing particular requested items and volunteers for the distribution. Learn more here.

Appalachian Service Project
Sponsored by Peace UMC Youth Group
Each year, Peace UMC sends a team of spirited workers to various parts of Appalachia to make homes warmer, safer and drier for families in need. All skill levels of youth 14-18 and adult leaders can participate in this week of service to become stronger, wiser and closer to God. Discover the thrill of this mission at the National ASP website.

Good Neighbor Program:
Using donated funds and skilled volunteers, Peace UMC provides repairs for homes of church members in need.

Thurman Brisben Homeless Shelter:
The Brisben Center is the greater Fredericksburg community’s full service, year-round, residential emergency homeless shelter. Several Peace UMC members serve on the board of this local mission. They bring us information about the current immediate needs and long term improvement goals.

Peace UMC United Methodist Men usually provide one meal a year for the shelter residents. The choir has provided dinner music at this meal in the past! Another opportunity to help is fresh food pick-up from the farmers’ market and delivery to the shelter during the summer.

– Saturday veggies. Pickup up crates from shelter before noon and distribute at market (1/2hr + travel). Pickup full crates ~1pm and return to shelter (1 hr).

For immediate needs of the shelter, visit their website, Brisbencenter.org.
