Music Ministry

Under the direction of Ms. Brenda Scott, Peace has an adult and children’s choir. Peace is also blessed to have both adult and children’s Hand Bell Choir under the direction of Ms. Mary Westbrook. Anyone interested in joining one of the choirs should contact the church for more information.

Adult and Children’s Choir

The Chancel Choir consists primarily of adults who rehearse every Thursday at 7:30 pm in the sanctuary. The Choir takes a break from July through August. The choir leads the worship music and present an anthem each Sunday at the 11:00 am service. We perform various styles of SATB music, including contemporary and classical accompanied by the piano.

We also enjoy singing special music for seasonal services such as Easter and Christmas. Whenever possible we like to add instruments to our octavos, therefore we welcome instrumentalists as well as vocalists. This is a fun group and we enjoy bringing God’s message through music.

Handbell Choir

The Bells of Peace is a handbell ensemble open to anyone interested in playing handbells.  The group rehearses on Sunday evenings at 6:30, with the goal of playing for worship services once a month.  We are blessed to have both a three-octave set of bells and a three-octave set of chimes.  The ensemble plays music rated at level 2 or possibly level 3-.  Ability to read music is not a requirement to join — but a commitment of time, enthusiasm and a willingness to try new experiences is a plus. The Bells of Peace has participated in handbell workshops sponsored by the James River Ringers in past years.  Anyone who knows their left hand from their right and can count to four is welcome to join the ensemble!  For further information, please contact the church office.

Guest Performances

Each quarter, PUMC has a musical group come in and perform for the congregation. Shown in the photos are the group Castlebay (website castlebay.net), a group who has been invited to play for PUMC many times.
